A Social Enterprise who aim to provide young people with training, mentoring and employment opportunities through sport
Carrick Sport Group CIC is a not for profit social enterprise founded in 2018. We are a sport for development organisation who aim to provide young people with training, mentoring and employment opportunities through the delivery of our sport and physical activity programmes. The organisation was founded by Connor Watt and David Phee after consultation with the local community. The pair identified that there was a lack of accessible sporting opportunities within the area as well as a lack of qualified coaches locally. Carrick Sport has been set up to tackle this issue.
Connor and David believe that sport can be a great tool for developing people. In securing funding through the programme they have gone on to turn their passion into a community-driven social enterprise. They are now looking to grow Carrick Sport, with the community at the heart of their decisions.
Having been based in Girvan over the past few years the pair have built up a plethora of local contacts, and intend to train and develop people through our community sport and physical activity programmes to become more employable.
Wanting to start with what the community wanted most, and then grow sustainably, they decided to start with the Gymnastics Club and expand from there.
Connor and David’s ethos has already seen a number of people become employed locally through the delivery of sport and activity programmes. Girvan’s Girls Getting Active Worker Caitlin Flanagan said “Connor and David have been fantastic! They have supported me from a young age to develop my skills and further my knowledge”.
